Ellie Chu earns money writing assignments for other students while helping her father make ends meet in their small town. When Paul asks her to write a love letter to Aster, Ellie accepts what seems like another straightforward job. The correspondence becomes harder to manage when the words Ellie supplies begin to express feelings of her own. Paul’s unexpected friendship adds another complication, leaving her caught between the person who speaks the letters and the person who understands them. As Aster responds, Ellie finds a connection she has rarely experienced in daily life. The film reworks the romantic triangle around questions of authorship, belonging, and whether being loved can begin with the courage to let another person truly see you.
