Journalist Mikael Blomkvist accepts an assignment to investigate a disappearance that has haunted a powerful Swedish family for decades. Lisbeth Salander, a skilled investigator and hacker whose own life is shaped by intrusive institutions and hard-won independence, becomes essential to the search. Their collaboration uncovers layers of secrecy beneath a respectable family history, while Lisbeth must also confront the people who believe they can control her. David Fincher’s adaptation follows two outsiders approaching the same mystery from very different positions. At its centre is a woman whose intelligence and refusal to surrender her agency challenge the assumptions made about her, even as the investigation takes both partners into increasingly dangerous territory.
