Margaret arrives in New York with little money, plenty of uncertainty and no obvious place to belong. Trying to earn a living through sex work, she crosses paths with Jo, a more experienced hustler who appears to know every shortcut the city can offer. Their improvised partnership leads through awkward negotiations, improbable clients and the practical business of finding somewhere to sleep. Margaret’s longing for connection sits alongside the demands of survival, while Jo’s apparent confidence conceals contradictions of its own. Madeleine Olnek turns the familiar male hustler film into an eccentric lesbian buddy comedy, finding absurdity in the gap between glamorous fantasies and everyday necessity. At its centre is a woman learning how to navigate an unfamiliar world without losing her capacity for affection.
