Liesel Landauer's striking modern house appears to promise a life shaped by openness and possibility. Her connection with Hana, however, must exist within a world that leaves little room for the feelings growing between them. As political upheaval transforms their lives, the house becomes both a meeting place and a reminder of everything history can take away. Separation does not end the bond between the women, whose choices continue to echo across the years. Set against the disruption of twentieth-century Central Europe, this period drama follows a relationship defined by desire, missed opportunities and endurance. Its emotional centre remains the space between the lives Liesel and Hana are expected to lead and the life they might have imagined together.
