Yu Fang’s work in a café and participation in a theatre production bring her into contact with Monica, an actress trying to build a precarious career. Their attraction becomes one strand in a web of relationships shaped by ambition, loneliness, and the wish to be seen. Elsewhere in Taipei, Ming Liang retreats into fantasies that bear little resemblance to the lives of the women around him. A violent incident forces these separate worlds together, and the story circles back through the encounters that preceded it. As public judgment closes in, private experiences are distorted into competing versions of the truth. The film examines how desire and resentment become dangerous when people treat others as characters in their own imagined stories.
