Lara accompanies her estranged father to a decaying Hungarian castle, where his work leaves her surrounded by an unfamiliar landscape and the weight of their uneasy relationship. A car accident brings Carmilla into her life, offering a sudden intensity that the isolated setting seems to magnify. Fascination develops into a bond that is difficult to explain to anyone outside it. As Carmilla becomes more elusive, Lara’s fears begin to reshape the world around her. The gothic drama draws on the atmosphere of the Carmilla tradition, bringing adolescent desire into contact with uncertainty, family distance and supernatural dread. Its central relationship offers the promise of escape while making the distinction between refuge and danger increasingly unstable.
