Sister Aimee has become famous enough that her public identity follows her everywhere. In 1926, the evangelist stages a disappearance and sets out toward Mexico with a lover, hoping to escape the life her followers think they know. The journey grows more complicated when the travellers hire Rey, a resourceful woman whose work takes her across the border. Aimee's attraction to Rey introduces a possibility that was not part of the original plan. This playful period adventure turns a historical mystery into an imaginative story about performance and reinvention. Its romance belongs to a deliberately fictionalised account of Aimee's escape, bringing questions of desire, religion and authorship together as the woman at the centre tries to become more than the role that made her famous.
