Wil is a busy New York doctor who has learned to keep the most important parts of her life carefully separated. Her attraction to dancer Vivian promises a new relationship, but discretion is already becoming a source of tension when Wil’s widowed mother arrives with a secret of her own: she is pregnant. Living together forces mother and daughter to confront the expectations of their close-knit Chinese-American community and the truths each has avoided telling. This romantic comedy pairs a developing love story with a family reckoning, giving both women the difficult task of deciding how much respectability is worth when it comes at the expense of happiness.
