Maud takes a private nursing job in the seaside home of Amanda, a dancer facing a life-limiting illness. Recently devoted to religion, the young carer begins to see their meeting as an opportunity to fulfil a greater purpose. Amanda's more worldly outlook, including her relationship with another woman, complicates the intimacy growing within the house. The women's interest in each other becomes increasingly difficult to separate from loneliness, dependency and the wish to be understood. This psychological horror follows the unstable boundary between caring for someone and claiming authority over their life. Amanda is an explicitly gay central character, while the nature of Maud's attachment remains unsettled. Their connection drives a story in which spiritual conviction and personal need become dangerously entangled.
