A disease has removed the adults from the world, leaving the young people of Potter's Bluff to invent their own rules. The town is divided between resourceful Eastsiders and a more powerful group holding the old high school. When Nat's brother is taken prisoner, she and Scratch cross into hostile territory to bring him back. Their relationship becomes a source of courage amid the dangers of a rescue that neither can manage alone. This punk-inflected adventure places two queer girls at the centre of a post-apocalyptic conflict over wealth, belonging and authority. The action grows from the community they are trying to protect, while their connection offers a more personal reason to resist the future being imposed on them.
