Benni lives with her father in a religious settlement in East Jerusalem, where his beliefs shape the household and the future he imagines for them. When a red heifer is born, he invests the animal with enormous spiritual significance and gives Benni responsibility for its care. At the same time, her attraction to Yael opens a world of feeling that does not fit neatly into his plans. Growing closer to another woman makes the distance between father and daughter harder to ignore. Set against a charged political and religious environment, Tsivia Barkai-Yacov’s coming-of-age drama follows Benni as she begins questioning inherited certainties and considering how to claim a life that can accommodate her own desires.
