Wednesday has grown up learning the rules of survival on the streets of the Bronx, and she now works within an economy that offers little room for security. Looking after her mother and trying to build a future with her girlfriend Nikki keep her moving, even as earning enough money pulls both women further into danger. Wednesday wants control over her circumstances, but encounters with a rival operator reveal how quickly the terms can change. Christine Crokos’s crime drama follows a queer protagonist whose toughness is inseparable from responsibility and attachment. Her relationship with Nikki gives the struggle its personal stakes, as the promise of a life beyond the neighbourhood runs against the risks of the work sustaining them.
