Nina and her husband Wojtek have reached a point where having a child seems inseparable from the hope of rescuing their marriage. Their search for a surrogate brings Magda into their lives, a younger woman whose independence unsettles the assumptions behind the arrangement. Nina begins feeling drawn to her in ways that cannot be contained within the practical role the couple initially imagined. What starts as a proposed solution exposes questions about intimacy, desire and the future Nina has accepted as inevitable. Olga Chajdas’s debut follows the emotional imbalance between three people whose wishes are no longer aligned, placing Nina’s unexpected attraction within the social expectations that have shaped her marriage and her understanding of herself.
