Nico moves through Berlin with humour and confidence, working as a home-care nurse and spending time with her friend Rosa. A racist attack abruptly changes how safe she feels in the city and in her own body. Although her visible injuries begin to heal, returning to her former routine proves much harder. Karate training gives her a way to direct her anger, but the effort to become invulnerable also creates distance from the people who care about her. Meeting Ronny, a young carnival worker, introduces the possibility of intimacy at a time when trust feels precarious. Nico’s recovery becomes a search for strength that can accommodate tenderness, rather than demand that she shut it out.
