Amy has stayed in the small New Hampshire town where she grew up, making art and living with her father while parts of her private life remain difficult to discuss. The return of Emily, a close friend she has not seen for nearly a decade, unsettles that familiar arrangement. Emily arrives with a boyfriend and plans of her own, yet the renewed friendship brings an intimacy Amy has missed. Wanting to come out becomes tangled with the fear of changing what they have only just recovered. Deirdre Herlihy’s small-scale drama follows the awkward conversations and everyday evasions through which people try to protect relationships, even when those protections make it harder to be fully known by someone who matters.
