Claudia has grown up on an isolated property, taught to distrust the world beyond it. After her mother’s death, she is left alone with beliefs that make seeking help almost impossible. Then Grace appears in the garden, curious and open in ways Claudia has never encountered. Their visits create a private summer refuge where small pleasures become discoveries and affection develops into first love. Each girl carries difficulties from home, and their growing trust offers support neither has reliably found elsewhere. But the outside world cannot be kept away indefinitely. As questions surrounding Claudia’s circumstances draw attention, the relationship must face pressures beyond the shelter they have made together, turning their intimacy into both a comfort and a fragile hope.
