Lucy travels with her family to demonstrations against the death penalty, an issue made intensely personal by her father’s place on death row. At one gathering she meets Mercy, a woman whose family experience has led her to the opposite side of the debate. Their attraction develops across a division that neither can treat as merely theoretical. As they spend time together, Lucy must negotiate the demands of her family, the strain of uncertainty and a relationship that complicates the positions around which her life has been organized. The film places an intimate connection within an emotionally charged political setting, following two women who want closeness while carrying experiences that make understanding one another difficult.
