McKenzie returns to the mountain community she knew as a child after a suspension from her FBI job and the loss of her mother. Hoping for distance from the damage in her life, she instead finds herself drawn into a new set of relationships. Freddie, a boy with disabilities, introduces her to his own way of seeing the world, while his mother Samantha becomes an increasingly important presence. The attraction between the women offers the possibility of connection at a moment when McKenzie is struggling to trust her future. Yet the past does not stay outside the town's boundaries. This romantic drama follows an unexpected family taking shape through grief, vulnerability and the difficult choice to let other people become necessary.
