Aileen Wuornos meets Selby Wall during a period of desperation and sees in their connection a chance for companionship and a different future. Their relationship becomes the emotional centre of a life increasingly shaped by poverty, abuse and violence. As Aileen tries to support them, a series of killings pulls the couple further from the ordinary existence she imagines. This crime drama uses fictionalised characters and events to examine its protagonist’s story, with the romance woven into the choices and consequences around her. Selby is a dramatic creation rather than a reliable stand-in for every detail of the historical relationship that inspired the film.
