Newly arrived at a Compton high school, Aleteia would rather focus on activism and her future than negotiate the school’s social hierarchy. A class assignment brings her together with Rosarito, whose apparent ease among popular classmates conceals frustrations of her own. Their tentative friendship becomes a source of affection and possibility just as Aleteia’s immigration protection begins to look dangerously uncertain. The prospect of losing the home she knows threatens her plans for education and independence, making even ordinary decisions feel precarious. As the girls grow closer, the film places first love beside the political forces shaping daily life. Aleteia’s desire to belong never means accepting the conditions that make her future so vulnerable.
