When German newcomer Maria arrives in Israel to be with Shira, an awkward misunderstanding sends their relationship toward marriage faster than either woman anticipated. Their families respond with enthusiasm, suspicion, and a formidable collection of assumptions about history and belonging. Shira’s grandmother Berta is especially resistant to the match, even as her own romantic life complicates the principles she insists everyone else should follow. What should be a private decision becomes a lively negotiation between generations, languages, and conflicting ideas of loyalty. At the centre are two women trying to discover whether their love can survive the expectations gathering around it. The comedy finds both affection and friction in the distance between accepting a relationship and allowing it to unfold on its own terms.
