Valeria has wanted a child, and the news of her pregnancy seems to promise the life she has been working toward. Instead, the months ahead bring growing unease and visions that turn her body and home into threatening spaces. Reconnecting with Octavia, a woman from her past, unsettles the picture of herself she has tried to make acceptable to those around her. As the supernatural presence becomes harder to dismiss, Valeria must confront the choices and expectations bound up in becoming a mother. Michelle Garza Cervera’s folk-horror debut links bodily fear with queer desire, following a woman whose apparent fulfilment may depend on giving up parts of herself she still needs.
