Her Private Hell

A strange mist settles over a futuristic city, and Elle begins searching for her missing father as a dangerous presence moves through the streets. Her path intersects with a soldier trying to recover his daughter, drawing both into a world where desire, violence and family ties have become difficult to separate. Elle’s history with Dominique, her former lover who is now married to her father, adds another troubling connection to the search. Nicolas Winding Refn’s thriller follows a sapphic protagonist through an unstable urban nightmare. The film’s queer relationship is part of its psychological and familial conflict rather than a conventional romance.
