After her husband’s death, Claudina moves into her daughter’s home in a conservative town in southern Chile. The life available to her seems defined by other people’s expectations of an older widow. Meeting Elsa, a married neighbour, unsettles those expectations and opens a possibility Claudina has never allowed herself to imagine. Their growing affection brings tenderness and desire into days previously governed by routine, but being seen together carries consequences in a community quick to judge. Around them, rumours of mysterious lights and UFO sightings offer another way to dream of escape. Claudina’s story follows the difficult discovery that beginning again has no fixed age, and that freedom may require a departure from the roles others consider settled.
