Ever is struggling to find a way forward after her boyfriend’s death. Grief has changed the texture of everyday life, making familiar places and interactions feel difficult to inhabit. Meeting Emily introduces a connection that does not fit neatly into the story Ever has been telling about herself. Friendship brings comfort, then the possibility of romantic feelings that are both welcome and unsettling. The film follows that gradual movement without suggesting that a new relationship can simply replace what has been lost. As Ever tries to understand her attraction, she must also confront the uncertainty of allowing another person to matter. Mourning and desire become overlapping experiences rather than separate stages in an orderly recovery.
