A struggling lesbian rock band sets out for a competition in the city, determined to keep its musical hopes alive. Reaching the stage proves considerably harder than getting into a vehicle. Their journey attracts an expanding assortment of enemies and improbable encounters, including cyborgs, ghosts, martial artists and a billionaire with plans of her own. Set in a heightened version of the 1980s, the comedy treats a road trip as an excuse for exuberant genre changes and musical interruptions. The band’s members must negotiate trouble with the same stubborn energy they bring to performing. Friendship, queer community and a refusal to become respectable keep the adventure moving even when the route appears to have abandoned ordinary logic entirely.
