Mary Morrison has a successful writing career, a family, and a new book to finish, but finding room for all three proves difficult. Hiring Grace to care for her children seems to offer the breathing space she needs. The young nanny quickly becomes part of the household, and Mary’s fascination with her begins to spill into the private world of her imagination. As their intimacy grows, ordinary moments acquire a disturbing double meaning. Mary can no longer be certain which encounters have happened and which belong to the story taking shape in her head. Desire, dependence, and suspicion pull against one another in a thriller built around the dangerous uncertainty of trusting someone who has become indispensable.
