In 1990s Ireland, schoolmates Eddie and Amber each face unwelcome scrutiny about why they are not dating anyone. Their solution is a practical arrangement: pretend to be a couple, deflect the questions, and get through the remaining school year. The plan gives them an unexpected friendship, but their shared cover conceals very different hopes. Amber is already imagining a future in which she can live openly, while Eddie clings more tightly to the expectations surrounding him. As their escape from suspicion becomes a source of new complications, Amber has to decide what loyalty to a friend can reasonably demand of her. Humour and tenderness accompany a story about the difference between finding safety together and allowing each other to move forward.
