Jane works in a stationery shop and does not expect her romantic life to take a particularly dramatic turn. Meeting Zoinx changes that, though the woman she begins dating has a few unusual habits. Zoinx is an alien visiting Earth, sent to shed emotions believed to be threatening her home planet. Jane takes much of her girlfriend’s strangeness in stride, finding room for awkwardness that other people might be quicker to dismiss. Around them, fellow aliens and suspicious government agents pursue their own confused agendas. Madeleine Olnek’s black-and-white science-fiction comedy builds a gentle romance from imperfect communication, suggesting that the difficulty of explaining oneself to another person may be less extraordinary than the visitors from space imagine.
