Atafeh and Shireen are close friends whose attraction gives them a private world beyond the restrictions surrounding their lives in Tehran. Music, parties and dreams of escape offer glimpses of a freedom they cannot take for granted. Atafeh’s wealthy family appears more permissive than many, but the return of her brother Mehran begins to change the atmosphere at home. His new religious commitment and interest in Shireen bring the women’s intimacy under an increasingly watchful gaze. Maryam Keshavarz’s drama follows a relationship shaped by unequal resources and narrowing choices, as two young women discover that imagining a life together is very different from finding a safe route towards it.
