Gloria and Frances first fell in love as young outsiders, finding a shared language in punk music, anger and the desire to escape the lives laid out for them. Years later, their circumstances could hardly be more different. Frances has become a television personality, carefully managing the distance between her public image and private desires, while Gloria continues to live with far less security. A reunion revives their attraction without erasing the class differences, resentments and memories that now stand between them. Moving between the women’s youth and their adult encounter, Virginie Despentes’s romantic drama asks whether a love formed in rebellion can survive the compromises that one partner has made and the other has refused.
