After their friend Dan dies, Alex and Seph receive an unusual responsibility: scatter his ashes at a series of places across Britain. Recorded messages guide them along a journey that is less orderly than his instructions suggest. The two friends bring their own unresolved problems into the car, including Alex’s troubled relationship with her girlfriend and Seph’s uncertainty about the direction of her life. Encounters along the route interrupt their plans and give their grief unexpected forms. Their friendship remains the emotional centre of the trip, allowing moments of irritation, honesty and comic relief to coexist. As the miles accumulate, fulfilling Dan’s wishes becomes inseparable from deciding how to live with the questions he has left behind.
