After the death of a gay friend, Alexa travels from Amsterdam to the small American town where he lived. She brings a camera and the intention of making a documentary that might explain what happened, but the people she meets do not fit neatly into the story she expected to tell. Everyday conversations, new friendships and the unfamiliar pace of local life gradually draw her away from the safety of observation. A connection with artist Jennifer becomes especially important, turning Alexa’s questions about belonging towards her own unsettled feelings. Aaron Douglas Johnston’s drama blends a fictional journey with documentary encounters, following a visitor whose wish to understand someone else’s isolation becomes an unexpected invitation to examine her own life.
