Charlie is seventeen, restless at school and weary of the tensions at home. Sarah’s arrival offers a compelling distraction: confident and unpredictable, the new student seems to possess an ease Charlie lacks. Their growing closeness makes ordinary days feel newly charged, and Charlie begins to organize her life around the friendship. But Sarah’s attention is inconsistent. Intimacy gives way to exclusion, and the excitement of being chosen becomes a fear of being discarded. The drama remains close to Charlie’s experience as admiration, desire and dependence become increasingly difficult to separate. What begins as an escape from loneliness develops into a relationship whose rules keep changing, leaving her struggling to recognize where affection ends and emotional control begins.
