Sara is working hard to keep her studies and future on track when a new friendship offers an escape from the pressures around her. Alex is confident, privileged and quick to draw Sara into her world. Their attraction comes with a willingness to speak about the people who have hurt them, and a reckless conversation produces the idea of removing one another’s problems. Sara initially treats the exchange as a fantasy, but Alex appears to understand their agreement very differently. As events move beyond anything Sara intended, intimacy becomes a source of leverage and trust begins to collapse. Jamie Babbit’s thriller follows a relationship in which the promise of freedom conceals another form of control, leaving its protagonist to untangle desire from a dangerous bargain.
