PJ and Josie are unpopular best friends with a plan to improve their final year of high school: start a fight club and use it to get closer to the cheerleaders they like. The idea works better than expected, drawing girls into a space where frustration and the promise of solidarity quickly become powerful forces. But the attention the friends wanted also creates obligations they did not anticipate. Their increasingly elaborate story begins to strain both the club and their friendship. Emma Seligman’s comedy follows two lesbian teenagers whose attempt to engineer a romantic breakthrough grows into a much messier encounter with confidence, dishonesty and the desire to belong.
