Rachel Gurner keeps her family's small New York theatre running while sharing an apartment with the relatives whose needs always seem to come first. Her work, home and sense of responsibility have become almost impossible to separate. When a family discovery upends what Rachel and her sister Jackie thought they knew about their mother, the sisters are pushed beyond their familiar routines. Rachel also faces the question of whether there is room for a relationship and a life that belongs to her. A family comedy with a lesbian protagonist, the film follows the awkwardness of changing old roles while still caring about the people who created them. Romantic possibility sits alongside sibling tensions, theatrical ambition and the difficulty of finally asking for something for yourself.
