In Leningrad after the Second World War, Iya works in a hospital while struggling with the physical and emotional aftermath of military service. The return of Masha, a woman bound to her by their wartime past, brings an urgent need to rebuild something resembling a future. Their closeness contains care, resentment, dependency and desires that cannot be separated neatly from what they have survived. Around them, a damaged city resumes its routines without offering easy ways to recover. This intimate drama follows two women whose attachment becomes a place of refuge and a source of pressure. Its sapphic dimension belongs to that complicated emotional bond, rather than to a conventional courtship or a promise that love can repair every wound.
