Mifti moves through Berlin with little interest in the routines that are supposed to organize a teenager’s life. Her family offers limited stability, and school competes with parties, drugs and a succession of intense encounters. Among the adults who draw her attention is Alice, an older woman whose appeal becomes tangled with Mifti’s search for connection. Rather than following a straightforward path toward adulthood, Mifti drifts between fascination, provocation and vulnerability. The city becomes a space in which she can perform independence while remaining exposed to other people’s power. Her attraction to Alice is part of a restless attempt to locate intimacy and a sense of self in a world that rarely gives her clear limits.
