Maja’s acting career has narrowed to occasional appearances as a character from an old television programme. Meeting Leah, a visiting academic, brings an unexpected romance and the possibility of a less diminished future. When Leah is injured after a seizure, Maja follows her to London, where the relationship enters a home already governed by Leah’s mother Chana. Her resistance to Maja’s presence seems at first like ordinary disapproval. Strange events and guarded routines suggest something more difficult to explain. Combining a relationship between two women with Jewish folklore and possession horror, the film follows a new partner trying to understand whether love is enough to enter a family’s carefully protected world.
