Frankie is passionate about her band, her Italian-American family and the traditions that shape her life. She has a fiancé and an apparently settled future, but an unexpected encounter with Nicolette disrupts the assumptions behind both. Their attraction grows amid a comic tangle involving family loyalties, organized crime and a gun that brings unwanted complications. Frankie must work out how to acknowledge her feelings while dealing with relatives whose expectations are difficult to escape. The film combines a coming-out romance with a playful mob comedy, placing the pressures of family belonging alongside the possibility of a different life. Music gives Frankie another way to express what she has trouble saying aloud.
