Martha works as a hotel housekeeper in Fresno and hopes that helping her sister Shannon will bring them closer. Shannon arrives with problems of her own, and their attempt at a fresh start quickly becomes a much less manageable undertaking. An unexpected death draws the sisters into increasingly desperate efforts to deal with the consequences. Martha’s desire for connection extends beyond her family, but her loyalty to Shannon repeatedly pulls her attention back toward crisis. This dark comedy uses their chaotic partnership to explore resentment, dependence and the trouble with believing that one more act of help will fix everything. Martha’s romantic life forms part of a broader portrait of someone struggling to put her own needs first.
