The story
Cadence’s singing gives her magical power, but her queen decides how that power is used. Forced to inflict suffering on the country’s disgraced nobility, she has little room to imagine an existence outside obedience. Reuniting with a childhood friend changes that. The noblewoman’s ties to a rebellion offer another perspective on the regime Cadence serves, while old affection develops into feelings both must confront. Their positions on opposing sides make trust dangerous, yet refusing to act carries its own cost. In a kingdom where a voice can be made into an instrument of violence, Cadence must decide whether she can use hers to help create a different future.
