Sloane Patterson arrives in England with the reputation of an American soccer star and a place at Salchester Rovers. She expects to concentrate on winning. Instead, upheaval in her private life and the collapse of her engagement make the move far less straightforward. Ella Carmichael is brought in to help her settle, placing the two women in regular contact while Sloane tries to find her footing. Their connection develops alongside the demands of a competitive season, where ambition leaves little room for distraction. Ella becomes increasingly difficult to regard as simply part of the club’s support system. With professional expectations pressing from one direction and unexpected feelings from another, Sloane must reconsider what success in her new life might actually look like.
