Carmilla and Laura

Laura’s secluded life in a Styrian schloss leaves little room for companionship beyond her father and governesses. When an accident brings Carmilla into their household, the beautiful stranger offers intimacy Laura has scarcely imagined. Affection becomes desire, even as Carmilla’s habits and elusive history raise questions Laura does not want to ask. Beyond their private world, young women are dying from a mysterious affliction. As danger draws closer, Laura must confront the possibility that the woman she loves is connected to it. Reimagining the central relationship of the nineteenth-century vampire novella, this gothic romance follows a young woman caught between the tenderness of her experience and the terrible implications of what she discovers.
