After the Fall
2011
The story
Taylor Stone has survived the plague by refusing attachments. Keeping moving and staying uninvolved seem safer than caring about people in a world where so many women have died. Her journey home has a purpose she does not intend to abandon, and a stop for food and shelter should be temporary. Burninghead Farm makes that plan harder to follow. The survivors there offer a sense of connection Taylor has stopped expecting, and Kate awakens feelings that do not fit the isolated future she has imagined. Remaining distant would protect the rules that kept her alive. Letting herself care could offer something beyond survival, if she can find the courage to risk another loss.
