TL;DR / THE SHORT VERSION
The short version
Shelly is due to return to work on November 1. A ShellyPundao reunion has not been announced. The distinction matters: returning to the industry and returning to a professional pairing are different decisions.
News & analysis · Updated October 24, 2026. Public statements and reported events are separated from our analysis.
Shelly Phetsai Chanrueang and Aom Pundao Panyabaramee became known together through Roller Coaster. Their connection extended beyond a promotional pairing when Shelly publicly confirmed they were dating. That makes the end of their joint work more complicated than a casting change.
Our view: Motion Minds had a difficult decision to make, but its public handling put too much of the women’s personal lives on trial.
Start with their work: Roller Coaster
Shelly plays Loft and Pundao plays Pure in Roller Coaster, alongside Neko as Air. If this story is your introduction to the actresses, the series is a place to discover their performances.

What happened to ShellyPundao? The timeline
Before October 1: fans start comparing photographs
Before the statements, Reddit discussions described fans comparing photographs of apparently matching locations. Commenters also alleged that a man identified as Shelly’s ex had interacted with fan accounts. The alleged interactions and the sequence of those comparisons remain unverified.
Commenters described taking their suspicions to Motion Minds. Matching photographs and online interactions do not establish an affair.
October 1: Motion Minds suspends Shelly and ends joint work
Motion Minds announced an indefinite suspension and the end of Shelly and Pundao’s joint professional activities, with existing commitments to be reviewed case by case. The company described an undisclosed, overlapping relationship as damaging professional trust, while denying that it was trying to control an artist’s private life.
The allegation of an overlapping relationship is the company’s characterization.

Shelly said the “two worlds” she had described were her mother and Pundao, rather than two ongoing romantic relationships. She described the man as an ex and discussed family pressures. She also said she still loved Pundao, but accepted that they were stepping back to a sibling-like relationship and did not want to pressure her into returning.
October 10: Pundao sets boundaries around her family and future
Pundao asked people to stop involving her family, respect her feelings and give her space. In a follow-up, she said she still wanted to continue her career and had told the company so. She also acknowledged that the future depended on other factors, and that she needed time to process what had happened.
October 20: Motion Minds sets a return date
Motion Minds set October 31 as the final day of Shelly’s suspension, with regular duties resuming on November 1. The notice did not reinstate ShellyPundao or limit her return specifically to individual events.

Why a Thai GL ship is a business beyond the show
A professional ship is a recurring promotional pairing that can follow actresses across series, appearances and products.
At an October 20 industry forum, Star Hunter founder Yot Kornherun described the commercial opportunities around popular screen pairings: merchandise, overseas fan meetings and tourism. The discussion also addressed financing pressures and the value of lasting fan loyalty. The relationship with the audience continues long after a finale.
Western entertainment has its own fan conventions, merchandise and celebrity marketing, but Thai GL takes the business of an on-screen pairing to another level. A successful series doesn't just introduce two actresses to an audience; it can establish them as a marketable duo with a fanbase that follows them well beyond the final episode. Fan meetings, brand endorsements, joint appearances and social media content keep that relationship in the spotlight long after the story ends.
The financial risk is what happens next
Once belief in a pairing breaks, it raises questions if fans will still buy the next ticket or merchandise release. Can another campaign rebuild enthusiasm, or is the company pouring money into a partnership the audience no longer wants? It becomes a big financial risk.
Ending a pairing can mean abandoning development and promotion already paid for. Continuing requires another investment in staff, venues, travel and production.
Further complicated than real romance cannot simply be rewritten to suit the next campaign. Neither woman owes the business a reconciliation, and the business has to weigh the business viability of the coupling.
A difficult decision can still be a PR blunder
A pairing can become commercially difficult to continue even when audiences want it back. Management still has a responsibility to protect the people whose careers it manages.
But the artists should come before the announcement. Pundao’s account is the part that makes the public handling so troubling. In a screenshot of her October 8 LINE message shared by fan account @Pundaodom, she reiterated:
“Pundao learned at the same time as everyone else that day.”

Pundao deserved time to absorb what had happened before answering for it publicly. Rumours move quickly, and time pressure makes a disciplined response more important: establish the facts, consult both artists privately and explain proposed work changes before putting intimate allegations into a public notice.
Sometimes they best thing you can do in PR crisis is to say nothing and wait. Event a short holding statement could have acknowledged the concern while that work happened. Motion Minds instead made its allegation central to the announcement. That is our criticism: the public was handed a framework for judging the situation while information was still emerging.
Leave room for a future.
Selling a romantic fantasy is demanding enough. Expecting two performers’ private lives to sustain it indefinitely leaves very little room to be human.
Shelly is 23. Mistakes are inevitable, and hopefully she has the opportunity to learn from hers, repair what she can and move forward in her career. Pundao is talented and deserves the freedom to choose what comes next, on her own terms.
And Motion Minds? There's a lesson here, too. Take a breath before turning an internal issue into a public spectacle. Look after your artists, evaluate the situation behind closed doors and think carefully about what your next statement will actually accomplish. Good PR isn't always about having the last word. Sometimes it's knowing when not to say anything at all.
Because careers can recover, partnerships can change and fans can move on. But how a company treats its artists when things get difficult? Your artists and the fans that care about them will remember.
