Before Pangjie became Bell, she was ready to let the part go. Her first audition had gone badly, and waiting for another project seemed easier than trying again. Mable encouraged her to return. The woman who would play her protector on screen had already given her a reason to walk back into the room.

Pangjie and Mable’s story goes beyond on-screen chemistry. Behind ClaireBell are two actresses who arrived at the project with different experiences and learned how to make a difficult romance believable.

Who plays Claire and Bell?

Mable Siriwalee Siriwibool plays Claire, an inmate whose reputation makes other prisoners wary. Pangjie Paphavarin Sawasdiwech plays Bell, who was wrongfully imprisoned on a drug charge and dangerously unprepared for the alliances inside. When Bell becomes a target, Claire offers protection. Getting close to her brings risks of its own.

The eight-episode Thai GL puts its romance somewhere privacy, safety and trust are all in short supply. For newcomers: expect a prison-set drama rather than a light romantic comedy. The trailer gives a clearer sense of the setting and stakes before you commit.

Pangjie: the second audition that changed the story

In their Khaosod interview, Pangjie credited Mable and labelmate Arhoung with persuading her to try another casting round. She won the part, but getting it was only the beginning: Bell’s heavy emotional scenes required guidance from producers Mai Davika and Ter Chantavit.

There is a more interesting story here than an effortless debut. Pangjie had to return after rejection. Winning Bell meant taking on something new: carrying an emotionally demanding character through her first series.

Her persistence feels fitting for someone with a competitive streak. Alongside music, dance and directing theatre, Pangjie previously played forward for Phuket’s provincial football team. Returning after a difficult audition takes a familiar sporting instinct: regroup, put yourself back in contention and give it another shot.

Mable’s route into acting took a different kind of resolve. In an October interview about The Rules, she described completing postgraduate science studies before pursuing acting through casting submissions, extra work, modelling and classes. She had spent years preparing for one career before giving herself permission to pursue another.

When Claire came along, she approached the role with care. She told Khaosod that she worked through the character’s background with the producers and an acting teacher. Workshops with Pangjie also gave them space to build trust and establish boundaries for intimate scenes.

Behind Claire’s guarded looks were conversations about character, comfort and what each scene required.

What they want from their leading roles

Speaking to MEGA’s Moira Del Rosario, Pangjie put the ambition plainly: “Women shouldn’t have to choose between who they love and who they want to become.”

Mable’s own description of women in these stories was equally welcome: “We’re ambitious, flawed, resilient, and evolving.”

The flaws are worth keeping. A prison romance has room for women whose judgment is compromised, whose loyalties are inconvenient and whose desire does not neatly solve their circumstances. That is more compelling material than asking either actress to play an immaculate role model.

Both also spoke about wanting to explore different characters and stories. Their next shared credit takes them into another genre, with a fresh set of dangers to navigate.

What to watch next: The Rules

Mable and Pangjie both appear in The Rules (กฎหลังเที่ยงคืน), a Viu Original supernatural thriller, though not as a couple.

The premise follows a man taking a night-shift job in a mysterious convenience store, where breaking the rules can have fatal supernatural consequences. It is quite a change from ClaireBell, although neither workplace seems likely to win an employee-wellbeing award.
